Linagliptin
LINAGLIPTIN
Overview:
Linagliptin is a medicine used to help manage type 2 diabetes. It works by helping your body release more insulin and reduce the amount of sugar made by the liver, especially after meals. It helps prevent big ups and downs in your blood sugar during the day.
Classification:DPP-4 inhibitor (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 inhibitor)
Uses:
Linagliptin is used to help people with type 2 diabetes keep their blood sugar levels in check. Whether you take it on its own or with other diabetes drugs depends on what works for you. When you also eat well and stay active, it helps your body keep blood sugar steady, especially after eating.
How it works:
This medicine slows down an enzyme called DPP-4, which would otherwise break down the hormones that help your body lower blood sugar.. By blocking DPP-4, it allows those helpful hormones to stick around longer, which helps your body release more insulin when needed and lower the amount of sugar made by your liver—especially after meals.
Dosage: As prescribed by your doctor.
Side Effects:
Stuffy or runny nose
Sore throat
Cough
Mild joint or back pain
Headache
Precautions:When you want to begin Linagliptin, just to be on the safe side, tell your doctor whether you ever suffered pancreatitis or any other problem with your kidneys. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose especially in case you take any other diabetes medicine particularly that can lower your blood sugar. And also it is also important to state whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding or taking any other medications or supplements, to also operate without any complications.
