Allergies – Overview
Allergies are an immune system overreaction to substances that are normally harmless. These substances are called allergens. Common types of allergies are pollen, dust, insect venom, pet dander, and certain foods. These substances are known as allergens. When a sensitized person is exposed to an allergen, their immune system reacts and leading to symptoms like itching, rashes, sneezing, runny nose, swelling, and shortness of breathing. Symptoms can be severe with life-threatening reactions. For oral relief from allergies, you can try medication for allergies. The primary types of medication are decongestants, antihistamines, and leukotriene inhibitors. These are dissolvable tablets.
Medication to Treat Allergies
Products that can be used to treat allergies are of different kinds.
Antihistamine – Antihistamine medications interfere with the influence of the chemical known as histamine, which reacts with the symptoms of an allergy, sneezing, itching, a runny nose, and watery eyes. Antihistamines come in the form of liquids, tablets, or capsules. Allergy tablets can be used as an alternative to address these symptoms; in that case, those who use tablets find it more convenient.
Decongestants- Decongestants help clear nasal congestion by helping to constrict blood vessels in the nose to make it easy to breathe. They are available in tablets, capsules, and nasal sprays.
Nasal corticosteroid – The drugs are used to relieve symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion.
