CHOLINE SALICYLATE

Overview:

Choline salicylate is a drug commonly used in its analgesic and anti-inflammatory characteristics, especially in oral gels. It is mainly used to relieve the pain in the mouth, to treat mouth sores, teething pain among infants as well as the inflammation of the gums. Being a member of the salicylate family of medications, it has an effect similar to aspirin, since it relieves pain, edema, and inflammation.

Classification: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID)

Uses:

Choline salicylate is mostly used to: Relieve pain related to mouth ulcers Relieve teething pain in children Reduce gum inflammations and discomfort Reduce minor injuries or irritation of the mouth (e.g. those caused by braces or dentures) Relieve sore throats when used in throat gels or sprays It has a quick, topical pain-relieving effect when applied to the affected site.

How it works:

Choline salicylate acts by inhibiting the synthesis of a chemical in the body called the prostaglandins that produce pain, swelling and inflammation. These chemicals are reduced, which will help in enabling the body to bring pain and inflammation in the affected part. When used as gel in the mouth, it produces a cooling effect and eases the pain to disappear within a short period.
