GRAINSETRON HYDROCHLORIDE

Overview:
Granisetron Hydrochloride is a drug that is used in the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting particularly due to chemotherapies, radiations or surgeries. The mechanism of it is preventing some of the signals in the brain that lead to vomiting. It is generally tolerated well and makes the patients feel more comfortable at the time of treatment or recovery.

How it works:
Granisetron acts by blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the brain and the gut. The serotonin response can activate nausea and/or vomiting during chemotherapy, radiation treatment, or surgery. Granisetron inhibits this by preventing the binding of serotonin with its receptors, particularly in the vomiting center of the brain and the vagus nerve in the intestine. This can prevent the triggers of you becoming or feeling ill.

Tiredness or weakness
Trouble sleeping (sometimes)
Dizziness

Precautions:
Prior to administration of Granisetron, it is good to inform your physician on any allergies you might be having and the heart issues. Also, tell them about all the other medicines that you might be taking particularly mood or mental health medicines since they might mix with the medicine they are taking and might produce undesirable effects. Ask your doctor to see whether it is safe to do so in case you are pregnant or breast feeding. Granisetron may cause others to feel dizzy or even tired and thus, care should be taken when driving or performing an activity that requires an element of focus.
