Form: Sterile Eye Drops | Pack Size: 5ml

Product Overview
Dorzolamide is a strong carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to decrease high ocular pressure. Left untreated, this pressure can cause glaucoma or permanent blindness. In contrast with beta-blockers, Dorzolamide acts on reduction of the secretion of aqueous humor (the fluid present in the eye), allowing for a normal intraocular pressure (IOP) to be maintained. It is frequently prescribed for patients suffering from Open-Angle Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension.

Therapeutic Benefits

  • Pressure Regulation: Efficiently manages the intraocular pressure to prevent damage to the optic nerve.
  • Targeted Action: Directly decreases fluid secretion from the ciliary processes of the eye.
  • Permitting Combination Therapies: Frequently used alongside other eye drops (such as Timolol) if monotherapy cannot reach the target pressure.

Expert Advice: Tips for Administration

  • Hand Washing: To try to prevent the introduction of bacteria into your eye, you should always wash your hands prior to applying the medication to the eye.
  • Wait Time: If you take more than one eye product, put between each other drops at least 10 minutes apart to enable the proper absorption.
  • Since Rinse: After applying the medication, place your index finger on the inner corner of the eye (towards the nose) for 2 minutes. This prevents the medicine from draining down into your throat and allows the medicine to stay in your eye.
  • Droppers Should Not Be Touched: Never touch the dropper tip to surfaces of the eye, lid, or anything else. This continues to keep the solution clean and sanitary.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. Why do I get a bitter taste in my mouth after using Dorzolamide?
This is a very common side effect. The medication can drain through the tear ducts into the back of the throat. One can minimize this by using the Nasolacrimal Occlusion technique (pressing the corner of the eyes) for 2 minutes after application.
  2. Is Dorzolamide a cure for Glaucoma?
No, it does not cure glaucoma; however, it is very effective in management. It needs to be taken consistently every day to keep the eye pressure under control and stop the loss of vision.
  3. Can I use these drops if I have a Sulfa allergy?
Dorzolamide is chemically related to sulfonamides (sulfa drugs). While it is an eye drop, it can still be absorbed into the bloodstream. If you have had a severe reaction to sulfa drugs, consult your ophthalmologist for an alternative.
  4. How should I store the bottle?
The bottle should be stored at room temperature, away from any direct light and dampness. Have the top tightly shut when it isn’t in use. Most eye drops should be used up within 28 days of opening, even when some liquid remains.
  5. What should I do if I miss a dose?
In this event, use missed drops as soon as possible. But do not double dose; continue with the normal schedule.
