Desloratadine
DESLORATADINE
Overview
Desloratadine is an anti-allergy medication that helps ease symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and skin rashes. It’s a newer form of allergy medicine that works without usually making you sleepy
Classification
Antihistamines
Uses
It is typically used to treat:
Hay fever (allergic rhinitis) – helps relieve nose and eye allergies
Hives (urticaria) – reduces itchiness, redness, and skin swelling
Year-round or seasonal allergy symptoms, like sneezing, nasal congestion, or itchy throat
How It Works
Desloratadine blocks histamine receptors in the body. Histamine is released when you come in contact with something you’re allergic to (like pollen or dust). By stopping histamine from working, the medicine helps ease allergic symptoms and prevent them from getting worse.
Dosage:
As prescribed by your doctor.
Side effects
Most people tolerate desloratadine well, but a few may feel:
Headache
Dry mouth
Fatigue or tiredness
Upset stomach
These side effects are generally mild and short-lasting.
Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems
Let them know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before using
Though rare, avoid driving or operating machines if you feel sleepy or dizzy
Don’t mix with alcohol or sedative medicines unless advised
Only take the recommended dose—more doesn’t mean faster relief

Montelukast
MONTELUKAST
Overview
Montelukast helps to reduce inflammation and may be used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children at least 2 years old.
Montelukast is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (a narrowing of the air passages in the lungs due to exercise that is also known as exercise-induced asthma) in adults and children who are at least 6 years old.
For adults and children at least 2 years old with symptoms of seasonal or year-round (perennial) allergies, montelukast may be considered when other treatments have not worked.
Classification
Leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs)
Uses
Montelukast is commonly used for the long-term treatment of asthma and to prevent symptoms of exercise-induced asthma. It will not stop a sudden asthma attack. Always have your rescue inhaler with you for asthma attacks.
Montelukast is also used to help control the symptoms of allergies such as sneezing, stuffy, runny, and itchy nose.
How it works
Montelukast is in the leukotriene receptor antagonist family of medications. It works by blocking the action of leukotriene D4 in the lungs resulting in decreased inflammation and relaxation of smooth muscle.
