OVERVIEW:
Deflazacort is a corticosteroid medication used to reduce edema and suppress the activity of the immune system. It has been regularly applied to address conditions like asthma, arthritis, allergies and other autoimmune disorders. Furthermore, it is used in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) where it is used to strengthen muscles.

USES:
The use of deflazacort is widespread in the management of various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including those affecting the skin, allergic responses, asthma and rheumatoid arthritis among others. It is also used in patients having Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in order to strengthen their muscles and decrease the progression of the disease. The medication works by suppressing inflammation and controlling an extreme immune system reaction.
HOW IT WORKS:
Deflazacort activates the binding of glucocorticoid receptors to its cells, introducing changes in the functioning of genes. This decreases secretion of such chemicals as prostaglandins and cytokines leading to inflammation and immune system hyperactivity. This, in turn, contributes to the curbing of swelling, pain, allergic reactions, autoimmune reactions, etc., which makes it applicable in the treatment of a broad spectrum of inflammatory and immune diseases.

PRECAUTION:
