Fexofenadine Hydrochloride
FEXOFENADINE
Overview:
Fexofenadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and hives. It works by blocking histamine, a chemical in the body that causes allergic reactions. Because it doesn’t usually cause drowsiness, it’s safe to use during the day and helps people stay comfortable and alert while managing allergies.
Classification: Second-generation antihistamine
Uses:
Fexofenadine is used to relieve allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny or itchy nose, and itchy or watery eyes. It’s also helpful for people with hives, reducing itching and rash so the skin feels more comfortable. Overall, it helps manage everyday allergy problems without making you feel sleepy, allowing you to go about your day normally.
How it works:
Fexofenadine is a selective H1 histamine receptor antagonist. By blocking H1 receptors, it keeps histamine from triggering sneezing, itching, and a runny nose during allergic reactions. Because it doesn’t cross the blood-brain barrier significantly, it relieves allergy symptoms without causing drowsiness, allowing patients to stay alert while controlling their allergies.
Dosage: As prescribed by your doctor.
Side Effects:
- Headache
- Drowsiness
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
Precautions:
If you’re taking Fexofenadine, be cautious if you have kidney problems or are pregnant or breastfeeding, and always let your doctor know about other medicines you use, especially antacids, since they can affect how well it works. Although it’s usually non-drowsy, some people may still feel a little sleepy or dizzy, so be careful with driving or operating machines until you know how it affects you.
