Managing blood sugar levels with medications like metformin can prevent complications such as kidney damage, nerve issues, blindness, amputations, and sexual dysfunction. Effective diabetes control can also lower the risk of heart attacks or strokes.
HOW IT WORKS:
It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying the absorption of sugar (glucose) from the intestines, and increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
Dosage:
As prescribed by your doctor.
Side effects:
unusual muscle pain
feeling cold
trouble breathing
feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired, or very weak
stomach pain, vomiting
slow or irregular heart rate
Common metformin side effects may include:
low blood sugar
nausea, upset stomach
diarrhea.
Precautions:
You should not use metformin if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
severe kidney disease; or
metabolic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment)
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
kidney disease (your kidney function may need to be checked before you take this medicine);
high ketone levels in your blood or urine;
heart disease, congestive heart failure;
liver disease; or
if you also use insulin, or other oral diabetes medications

Overview:
Sitagliptin is a medicine that helps people with type 2 diabetes keep their blood sugar levels under control. It works by helping your body release more insulin after you eat and by telling your liver to make less sugar.
Classification:DPP-4 inhibitor (Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 inhibitor)
Uses:
Sitagliptin is a medicine which is administered to bring sugar level in the blood of a person with type 2 diabetes under control, notably following meals. It may be consumed independently or in combination with other diabetes drugs, but it is most effective when used in a combination with healthy diet and physical activity. It lowers the chances of diabetes-related issues such as damage to the nerve, kidney, or eye damage due to blood sugar level control.
How it works:
Sitagliptin blocks DPP-4, an enzyme that usually clears out helpful hormones that keep your blood sugar in balance. By blocking this enzyme, Sitagliptin allows those hormones to work longer, helping your body release more insulin after meals and lower the amount of sugar made by your liver. This helps your sugar levels stay balanced, mainly after meals.

Mild stomach pain
Nausea or diarrhea

Precautions:Inform your doctor about your kidney problems, any history of pancreatitis or other diabetes drugs that you take before taking Sitagliptin since when used together, this may lead to a reduced amount of sugar in the blood. And do inform your doctor whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or receiving other medicines or supplements, just in case there is nothing that would cause trouble or does not go well with the medicines.
