TRILOSAR 12.5MG TABLET is used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and oedema (a buildup of fluid in the body). Hypertension or high blood pressure is a lifelong or chronic condition in which the force exerted by the blood against the blood vessel (artery wall) increases. The higher this blood pressure, the harder the heart has to pump. Oedema may occur in high blood pressure where fluids of the body get trapped in the tissues of the hands, arms, feet, ankles and legs, leading to swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How long does it take for Amlodipine to work?
It starts working from the very first day of use, but it may take up to 1 to 2 weeks of regular use to observe the full effects of lowering your blood pressure. One could notice an improvement in chest pain from a few days of use for angina.

Q: Can I stop the medicine if my blood pressure is normal?
No. High BP is often called the "silent" killer as it does not display severe symptoms in many patients. Suddenly discontinuing Amlodipine increases the risk of dangerously escalating BP. Always consult your physician before discontinuing treatment.

Q: Does Amlodipine make you gain weight?
Weight gain is not a direct consequence of Amlodipine usage. However, there may be some mild weight gain due to swelling in the ankles or legs, which usually is seen and felt as fat gain. If the swelling is not tolerable, a dose adjustment may become necessary.

Q: Are there any specific foods I should avoid?
Although one can take it with most foods, grapefruit and grapefruit juice must be avoided as they tend to increase the amlodipine level in the blood, thereby increasing the risk of side effects.

Q: Can I take Amlodipine at night?
Yes. Amlodipine can be taken at any time of the day as long as the timing remains consistent. A lot of people find it convenient to take it early in the morning. Nevertheless, if taking it in the morning makes you feel lethargic, it is therefore better to take it at night.

Freely Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How soon will Chlorothiazide get to work?

Regarding fluid retention with hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), you may observe increased urination within 2 hours of the first dose. For blood pressure management, it may take 3 to 4 weeks of consistent use for the full therapeutic effect to be seen.

2. Is it safe to consume alcohol while on an HCTZ regimen?

It is best to limit intake of alcohol. Alcohol may cause a reduction in the blood pressure, concomitant with a side effect, a dizzy spell from hydrochlorothiazide.

3. Will taking a hydrochlorothiazide pill cause potassium loss?

Yes, just as all other diuretics, hydrochlorothiazide can cause potassium loss in the body. Your electrolyte levels may therefore be monitored via periodic blood tests by your physician, who may advise you to increase consumption of potassium-rich foods such as bananas and spinach.

4. What shall I do if I miss a dose of hydrochlorothiazide?

In the event of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember that you have forgotten it. If it is just about time for the next dose, there is no need to take it. Just leave it and take the one you are supposed to take next. Don't double the dose in order to catch up on a missed one.

5. Is it safe to take during pregnancy?

The use of chlorothiazide should be limited during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and under a doctor's care. It is advisable to diligently consult your doctor if you plan on conceiving or if you are pregnant.

Losartan

Losartan Potassium (25mg/50mg) Tablet

Losartan is a widely prescribed medication belonging to the class of Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs), primarily used for managing high blood pressure (hypertension) and protecting the kidneys from damage in Type 2 diabetes. It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing smoother blood flow and improving the efficiency of the heart.

Primary Indications

Hypertension Management: Effectively lowers high blood pressure, thereby reducing the long-term risk of stroke and heart attack.

Protecting Kidneys (Nephropathy): Helps slow the progression of kidney damage in patients with hypertension and Type 2 diabetes.

Prevention of Strokes: Commonly prescribed for individuals with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) to reduce the risk of stroke.

How to Use Losartan

Consistency is Key: Take your tablet at the same time every day to maintain a stable drug level in your system.

With or Without Food: Losartan can be taken with or without food, but consistency helps ensure stable absorption.

Avoid Potassium Supplements: Since Losartan may increase potassium levels (hyperkalemia), avoid supplements or salt substitutes unless advised by your doctor.

Initial Dizziness: You may experience light-headedness initially. Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to prevent dizziness.

Vital Safety Precaution

Pregnancy Warning: Losartan must be discontinued during pregnancy, as it can cause serious harm or even be life-threatening to the unborn fetus, especially in later trimesters.

Hydration: In cases of severe diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration, seek medical advice promptly, as this may lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Liver and Kidney Function: Inform your doctor about any liver or kidney conditions, as dose adjustments may be required.

Adverse Effects

While Losartan is generally well tolerated, some individuals may experience:

  • Upper respiratory tract infections (flu-like symptoms)
  • Dizziness or fatigue
  • High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

Seek immediate medical attention if you notice swelling of the face, lips, or throat, as this may indicate a serious allergic reaction.

Also Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How long will Losartan take to lower my blood pressure levels?
A: Blood pressure may begin to improve within 1 week, but full effects are typically seen within 3–6 weeks. Continue taking it as prescribed.

Q: Can I drink alcohol while taking Losartan?
A: Alcohol may increase side effects like dizziness and fainting. It is best to limit or avoid alcohol while on this medication.

Q: Is Losartan a “water pill” (diuretic)?
A: No, Losartan is an ARB, not a diuretic. However, it is sometimes combined with diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide for enhanced effect.

Q: Does Losartan cause dry cough?
A: Unlike ACE inhibitors (e.g., enalapril), Losartan is less likely to cause a dry cough.

Q: What should I do if I miss a dose?
A: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses at once.
