Benidipine
BENIDIPINE
Overview:
Benidipine is a medication that is applied to deal with high blood pressure and chest pains (angina). It acts by dilating blood vessels as well as relaxing them to facilitate ease of heart in pumping blood hence reduction of arterial pressure. When taken once daily it assists in controlling blood pressure in the long-term. Minor side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling of ankles among others may affect some people. When taking it, do not take grapefruit juice.
Classification: Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB)
Uses:
Benidipine is used to lower high blood pressure and help with chest pain caused by poor blood flow to the heart. When your blood vessels relax and widen, your heart pumps more easily. This long-term effect helps prevent major problems like strokes, heart attacks, and heart damage.
How it works:
Benidipine acts by preventing opening of calcium into the muscles in blood vessels and this makes them relax and widen. This will help to get the flow of the blood more convenient, decrease your blood pressure, and relieve your heart a little bit. It also aids in the chest pain prevention since it enhances the supply of blood to the heart.
Dosage: As prescribed by your doctor.
Side Effects:
Headache
Dizziness or light-headedness
Flushing (warmth or redness in the face)
Fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
Swelling in the legs or ankles
Precautions: Tell your doctor about all liver or heart problems before taking Benidipine and in particular heart failure or rhythm problems. It should also be noted whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding or using other medications to treat blood pressure, chest pains, or heart rate rhythm. It is imperative that you avoid grapefruit juice since it can alter the working of the drug. Because Benidipine may occasionally lead to dizziness, careful activities such as driving may not happen until you are humanly sure about how this medication reacts on your body.
