Clindamycin

Clindamycin (Phosphate/Hydrochloride)

Clindamycin is a potent lincosamide antibiotic employed for a range of severe bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and thereby stopping their growth. In dermatology, it has been considered as the gold standard treatment in Management of Acne Vulgaris, while its oral formulations are prescribed for skin, bone, joint, and pelvic inflammatory diseases caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria.

Therapeutic Uses

Management of Acne: Topical formulations (gels/solutions) decrease the acne-causing bacteria count and reduce inflamed skin. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Cellulitis, abscesses, and infected wounds. Dental Infections: Many times mentioned in cases of severe dental abscesses when the patient is allergic to penicillin. Respiratory Tract Infections: Effective against certain types of pneumonia and lung abscesses. Gynecological Health: Treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV).

Main Product Features.

Targeted action: It specifically targets Gram-positive and anaerobic bacteria. Multiple Formulations: Clindamycin is available as an oral capsule, topical gel, lotion, and vaginal cream. Rapid Absorption: Of the oral route, oral Clindamycin is quite well absorbed, the absorption being nearly 90%, hence gaining rapid therapeutic levels in the blood.

Topical (Gel/Lotion): First wash the affected skin with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Then, as per your dermatologist's instruction, apply a thin film on the lesion(s) once or even twice daily. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can Clindamycin treat a viral infection such as the common cold? Take into account that Clindamycin is an antibacterial drug only meant for bacterial infections. Unfortunately, Clindamycin cannot be helpful in viral infections such as the flu or the cold. Q: How long does it take for Clindamycin gel to clear acne? Though some improvement might begin to show around two-thirds of the way through a month, but it may take 8–12 weeks of consistent use to see the full benefit. Q: Can you take Clindamycin with pain from a toothache? Clindamycin is typically taken for dental symptoms if an infection or abscess is found. It is not a pain relief drug. Thus consulting a dentist to get a tooth pain diagnosis before beginning antibiotics is important. Q: Why do I have to use a full glass of water with the capsule? If the Clindamycin gets stuck, it could cause irritation or ulcers in the esophagus. Drinking a full glass of water ensures that the pill will reach the stomach quickly. Q: Does Clindamycin cause sun sensitivity? Even though not as frequent as with tetracycline, some patients might find their skin to be more UV-sensitive. Therefore, if someone is using clindamycin from a prescription, use a non-comedogenic sunscreen every day.
