How it works:
Eplerenone works by selectively blocking aldosterone receptors (mineralocorticoid receptors) in the kidneys, heart, and blood vessels. Normally, aldosterone makes the body retain sodium and water while losing potassium. By blocking this action, Eplerenone causes the body to excrete sodium and water but hold on to potassium, which reduces blood pressure, lowers fluid buildup, and decreases strain on the heart.
